The Tiktok platform announced on Saturday that it will suspend the live transmission function for a few days in Indonesia, due to the violent demonstrations that take place in this country for several days, AFP reports.
“Due to the escalation of violence during Indonesia demonstrations, we voluntarily decided to introduce security measures to maintain Tiktok as a safe and civilized space. As a precautionary measure, Tiktok Live is temporarily suspended for several days in Indonesia,” said a Tiktok spokesman.
President Prabowo Subaianto is facing the most violent demonstrations since taking power in October 2024. The protests included several big cities of the country, including the capital Jakarta, especially after the death of a motorcyclist, hit by a police car. The recording of the incident has gone viral and shocked many of the Indonesians.
Until then, the protests were motivated by the economic and corruption difficulties, given that the salaries of the parliamentarians were increased.
