German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Saturday that Russia is expecting to stop the war against Ukraine when he will no longer be able to wear it for economic and military reasons, given that diplomatic efforts have failed in recent weeks, reports Reuters, taken over by Agerpres.
“All the efforts of the last weeks have received an even more aggressive approach to this regime in Moscow against the population of Ukraine,” Merz told a regional conservative event in the North Westphalia.
“This will not stop until we make sure that Russia, at least for economic reasons, and maybe for military reasons, can no longer continue this war,” Merz said.
On Saturday, the head of the Russian General Staff, General Valeri Gherasimov, said that his troops are in a permanent offensive along the entire line of the front and that they have “strategic initiative”.
Russian troops are on the entire front of the Ukraine, says General Gherasimov. “The strategic initiative is completely ours”
Russia has intensified its air blows on cities far beyond the front line this summer.
The efforts of US President Donald Trump to reach a diplomatic resolution of the conflict, now in the fourth year, have failed so far, and his European allies, including Germany, demands tougher economic sanctions against Moscow.
