In 2024, 70.9% of EU people used internet connected devices, also known as “intelligent” or internet (IOT), notes Eurostat

The highest weight of users of devices connected to the EU was registered in the Netherlands (94.8%), followed by Ireland (90.6%) and Denmark (87%).

In contrast, the smallest weights were registered in Poland (46.1%), Bulgaria (50.8%) and Romania (56.6%). Among the different types of devices connected to the Internet, the TVs connected to the Internet were by far the most used IoT devices in 2024, reported by 57.9% of people. These were followed by portable smart devices, such as smart watches and fitness trackers (29.9%).

One fifth of people reported that they use game consoles (19.5%) and audio systems connected to the internet (19.3%). In addition, 16.0% of people say they use a virtual assistant in the form of a smart speaker.

Housing automation devices were less used. In 2024, 14.2% of people used a home -connected energy management system, 12.8% used smart appliances and 11.8% used smart housing security devices.
