UEFA made a historical decision! The final of the Champions League has been detached. Starting this season, it will be played at 7:00 pm, instead of 10:00 pm. The decision aims to improve the general experience on the day of the match for fans, teams and host cities.

The announcement was made through the official UEFA website. The President of the European Forum, Aleksander Ceferă, explained the decision.

UEFA has changed time for the Champions League final

UEFA has made the decision to change the start time of the Champions League final, starting this season. So far, the final of the most important interclub competition took place from 22:00, Romania time, but this changes with the Budapest final, from 2026, which will start at 7:00 pm.

Aleksander Ceferifer explained the decision: “Through this change, we put the experience of the fans in the center of our planning. The UEFA Champions League final is the highlight of the football season, and the new start -up will make it even more accessible and relevant to everyone involved.

Although 22:00 is suitable for the matches during the week, a start earlier, on Saturday, for the final, means a conclusion earlier, whether there are extensions or breaks, and gives fans the chance to enjoy the rest of the evening with friends and family, reflecting on the match of the season ”.

This is a welcome measure for supporters who participate in matches and which we fully support. In recent years, Football Supporters Europe has collaborated closely with UEFA to improve the experience of fans at the end of club competitions, and this change reflects even more clearly the recognition of supporters.

A match that starts earlier makes the day trips easier to make, reduce the stress related to travel and allow fans to enjoy the event without the care of the night logistics. It is a practical improvement, which puts the fans in the first place and continues the progress already made regarding the creation of a welcoming atmosphere, the accessibility and quality of the services offered at the UEFA finals.
