The Israeli army said on Tuesday that in the Monday kick that killed 20 people, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunes, in the south of the Gaza strip, triggering a wave of convictions in the world, his forces targeted a surveillance room belonging to Hamas, AFP informs, taken over by Agerpres.

From an “initial investigation”, it appears that the soldiers “identified a surveillance chamber placed by Hamas in the Nasser Hospital area, used to observe the activity of the troops to direct terrorist activities against them,” the army wrote in a statement, adding that the soldiers “acted to eliminate the threat by hitting and destroying the room”.

Six “terrorists” were killed in these blows that cost the lives of 20 people in total, adds the army, publishing six names, of which none corresponds to those of the journalists killed.

The chief of the General Staff ordered the investigation to continue with an emphasis on several points, mainly the “land decision process” and “the weapons used for blow”, says the army statement.

Double attack

At least 20 people, including five journalists working for the international press, were killed in the Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younès, southern Gaza.

The first attack was launched with a drone and was followed by an air bombardment that took place while the wounded were evacuated.

A clip broadcast by the Alghad TV News Agency showed civil defense workers wearing bright oranges and journalists hit by a bomb while trying to recover a victim of the previous attack, at the fourth floor of the hospital.

According to the information quoted by the BBC, the first attack took place around 10:00, the local time, according to the medical staff, and another explosion hit the same place about 10 minutes later, after the doctors and journalists arrived on the spot.

It seems that it was an attack called “Double Tap” – “double blow” – a controversial military tactic meant to maximize the number of victims, who killed many journalists in Gaza, writes BBC.

The international community reacted critically. French President Emmanuel Macron said the attacks are “intolerable”, while British Foreign Minister David Lammy has been declared “terrified”. The groups for the freedom of the press also condemned the attacks.

And Trump seemed to criticize the attack. “I am not satisfied with this. I do not want to see this,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “At the same time, we have to put an end to this nightmare. I am the one who released the hostages,” he said.
