KAS invests in border control. Details of new X -ray scanners

Modernized RTG scanners are one of the most modern devices of this type on the EU border – informs KAS. The cost of the car control system was PLN 16.8 million.
In turn, the cost of a railway scanner is PLN 18.2 million. The modernized X-ray device for x-raying wagons also works at the Przemyśl-Medyka railway border crossing. These are the most modern devices of this type on the border of the European Union (EU) – reports KAS.
Funds for the purchase came from the EU “financial support instrument for customs control equipment (CCEI)”. The devices have been replaced by older models that served at the transitions from 2011.
As the deputy minister of finance and head of the National Tax Administration (KAS) Marcin Łoboda emphasized, the development of trade in freight is associated with a growing level of risk. “Modern inspection equipment will improve border checks, which will improve border severance pay during the reconstruction of Ukraine,” Łoboda pointed out.
Border control in Medyka. Scanners are “excellent combat tools”
X -ray scanners allow the control of passenger cars, trucks, buses, coaches, cargo loads, and railway wagons. Thanks to advanced technology, officers of the Customs and Tax Service can in a short time x-ray many means of transport, which makes this method leading in the field of non-invasive control.
“Thanks to new devices, the Polish Customs and Tax Service has gained excellent tools for fighting border crime. This is an important step in eliminating illegal goods and ensuring the safety of our country,” said insp. Krzysztof Basak, director of the Tax Administration Chamber in Rzeszów.
Podkarpackie KAS currently has four stationary X-ray scanners at the road border crossings in Medyka, Korczowa and Budomierz and at the Przemyśl-Medyka railway crossing. Mobile X -ray devices and portable systems for controlling luggage and shipments are complemented. Another investment – construction of a stationary scanner at the border crossing in Malhowice – is planned for the beginning of 2027. The cost of the project is estimated at PLN 17 million.
