The pediatrician explained how to recognize spring hypovitaminosis in a child

19 March 17:10

Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics at Saratov Medical University Anna Spivakovskaya told the Saratov 24 TV channel how to recognize a lack of nutrients in a child.

According to the specialist, true vitamin deficiency (almost complete absence of any vitamin) is rare in children. More often we are talking about hypovitaminosis – a condition that develops gradually due to decreased solar activity, lack of fresh food and previous infections. Parents should pay attention to signs such as increased fatigue, problems concentrating, dry skin, brittle nails and dull hair.

However, these same symptoms may indicate other diseases, so you cannot make a diagnosis yourself. Only a pediatrician, after examination and laboratory tests, can prescribe vitamins.

The main way to make up for the deficiency is a balanced diet with enough proteins, fats and seasonal foods. But even in this case, in the spring the concentration of vitamins in vegetables and fruits is reduced due to long storage. Uncontrolled use of multivitamins, according to the doctor, is dangerous: an overdose of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) can cause toxic reactions and problems with the liver and kidneys.
