Former State Duma deputy Victor Alksnis died at the age of 74, reported by his daughter Irina
On the night of December 30, Alksnis had a hemorrhagic stroke, after which he fell into a deep coma. In the last years of his life, Alksnis was mortally ill with cancer.
In 1989-1991, Victor Alksnis was a People's Deputy of the USSR, in 1990-1991-a deputy of the Supreme Council of Latvia. In 2000-2007, he was a deputy of the State Duma, and from 2013 to 2015 he headed the city settlement of Tuchkovo in the Moscow region.
He is also known for his active role in the opposition to the restructuring of Mikhail Gorbachev, and had the nickname “Black Colonel” in the media.
