Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was said to be ready to “gradually” the presence of the Israeli army in Lebanon, if Beirutul materializes its disarming plan of the Pro-Iranian group Hezbollah, AFP reports, taken by news.ro.

“Israel is ready to support Lebanon in his efforts to disarm Hezbollah and to collaborate for a safer and more stable future,” said the head of the Israeli government in a statement, stressing that Israel “recognizes the important measure taken by the Lebanese government.”

If the latter will complete its project to disarm the Shiite Sitted Movement, Israel is ready to “take mutual measures, especially a progressive reduction in the presence of the Israeli army in coordination with the security mechanism led by the United States,” added the Israeli prime minister.

Hezbollah, threatened with disarming

An agreement to cease fire, concluded under US mediation on November 27, ended a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, two of whom of open war. It stipulates that only the Lebanese army and the UN peace force will be held in the south of the country, at the border with Israel, excluding the presence of both Hezbollah and the Israeli army. Since then, Israel has continued to hit Lebanon, stating that it aims at Hezbollah infrastructure, and maintains forces in five positions in the south of Lebanon, presented as strategic.

For his part, the Lebanese government tasked this month to develop a plan for disarming Hezbollah by the end of the year.

US emissary Tom Barrack said on August 18, in Beirut, that Lebanon took “a first step” and estimated that Israel should now be on his side to apply the fire termination agreement.

With some of his destroyed arsenal and decimated leadership, the Hezbollah movement came out very weak with the conflict with Israel, which he triggered at the beginning of the Gaza war. His influence on Lebanon's political life, which he has dominated for years, has decreased.

The Shiite Movement, the only Lebanese faction authorized to keep the weapons after the Lebanon Civil War (1975-1990), rejected the Government's decision to disarm it.

The Security Council must vote on Monday a possible extension with one year of the UN Peace Mandate in the south of Lebanon (Finul), which serves as a buffer between Israel and Lebanon 1978. This extension is desired by France and Beirut, while the United States and Israel oppose.
