The Deputy Governor of the Russian Kursk region, from the border with Ukraine, It was detained in a criminal case regarding the diversion of 1 billion rubles, the equivalent of $ 12.4 million, for defensive fortifications, the TASS news agency, quoted by Reuters, informed.
According to TASS, searches were carried out at the office of vice -government Vladimir Bazarov, who previously worked as a deputy governor in the neighboring region of Belgorod.
Bazarov's arrest was confirmed by the governor of the Kursk region, Aleksandr Hinştein, who said that the file is related to the activity in the Belgorod region of his deputy.
Since Ukrainian troops have crossed the border and entered the Kursk region last year, in the largest military incursion in Russia since World War II, a number of Russian officials have been investigated for corruption.
