Ukrainian media: Poland loses its importance in peaceful talks

Experts commenting on the portal emphasize that one of the reasons for this change is Poland's internal policy. Michal Lebduška, an expert from the International Affairs Association in the Czech Republic, points out that Polish foreign policy is strongly subordinated to domestic interests. In an interview with the portal, he expressed the belief that this approach weakens the credibility and importance of Warsaw as a partner for Ukraine.
The portal also points to growing support for far -right groups. According to IBRIS, in June 2025 as much as 46 percent Poles were in favor of limiting military aid for Ukraine, which is a clear increase compared to 26 percent. According to commentators from The Kyiv Independent, such opinions from February 2024, more and more Poles are beginning to perceive support for Ukraine as a burden for the country.

Neither Tusk nor Nawrocki help
An additional uncertainty on the Warsaw – Kyiv line was introduced by the election of Karol Nawrocki as president. His position towards Ukraine is controversial, especially since despite the strong condemnation of Russian aggression, he opposes the admission of Ukraine to NATO and the European Union. Prof. Paweł Borkowski in an interview with the Ukrainian portal noted that Nawrocki's policy towards the eastern neighbor remains unclear, and his close connections with the confederation cause concerns about possible less pro -Ukrainian directions of action.
Michal Lebduška also assessed the Polish political scene in the context of foreign relations. “Tusk's government is not a strong partner for Trump and the current US administration, and Nawrocki with his anti -Ukrainian and anti -western rhetoric also does not gain support in Europe,” the expert noted.
Not only political elections, but also internal disputes seem to undermine Warsaw's ability to effectively represent interests on the international arena. “Poland was in a trap: on the one hand it is struggling with internal conflicts, on the other – it does not use its potential in dialogue at international level” – summed up Michal Lebduška.
According to The Kyiv Independent, once a key ally of Ukraine, currently reduces its visibility in European support structures for Kiev. This situation is influenced by both national disputes, limited resources and tensions in relationships with key partners.
