Mayor Mihai Chirica announces the suspension of the twin -Chisinau twinning. The reason behind the decision: “We have a great and painful syncope”

The mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica, said that the procedures for suspending the twinning between the cities of Iași and Chisinau will start, in the context of banning the access of the mayor of the Republic of Moldova, Ion Ceban, in the Schengen area.

“We have a great and painful syncope for me as mayor because we are talking about a big city, Iași, with a big city Chisinau, the capital. Things have some reserves related to the way of communication,” Mihai Chirica told TVR Moldova.

The mayor of Iasi stressed that the twinning between cities involve direct cooperation and mutual visits, which is impossible at this time.

“For example, these twinning are possible as long as I can go directly to Edineț, Edinețul can come directly to me. But to Chisinau, a very serious problem. Because in this cooperation report, being twin cities, the mayor of Chisinau cannot come to Iași. It is a big problem. he added.

According to Chirica, the suspension will remain in force until the conditions that prevent Ion Ceban's movement to the Schengen area.

“The law that was the basis for the elaboration of the cooperation reports between cities in Romania and cities in the Republic of Moldova, in a express way, concern the direct visits, the direct cooperation of both parties, the bilateral relations that must continue. His reign to enter the Schengen area ”, adds Chirica.

At the beginning of August, Ion Ceban announced that he will challenge the prohibition, stressing that, so far, he has not received details about his reasons.
