Criticism of Filipe Coelho Grows Following Europa League Draw

Universitatea Craiova drew 1-1 with Ararat Armenia, prompting sharp criticism of head coach Filipe Coelho from journalist Alin Buzărin during GSP Live Special. The match was part of the Europa League playoff.
The second leg of the Europa League playoff between Ararat and Craiova is scheduled for August 27 in Yerevan.
Buzărin awarded Coelho a score of 4 for his preparation leading into the match against the Armenian team, criticizing his inability to address issues with set pieces. The team conceded a goal from a corner where Hugo Oliveira took a short corner, received the ball, and assisted Malis, who scored with a header.
Alin Buzărin: “Coelho represents mediocrity and clichés”
Buzărin expressed disappointment, stating, “He concedes a goal in the 7th minute against FC Argeș without any reaction. We should be training on set pieces! Last year’s attacking plays aren’t working as well anymore, and the previously manageable defensive issues have become infuriating. Every corner results in a goal. I would give Coelho a grade of 5 as a symbol of his mediocrity, even if he wins the championship 10 times! He’s a mediocre person full of clichés. I’ll deduct a point from that grade because he hasn’t solved the set-piece issues.”
Buzărin emphasized the importance of adhering to fundamental football principles, noting, “You can’t, as the defending champions, concede one or two goals from set pieces week after week! You have to fix that problem. For this reason, he fails the class. Overall, he’s a consistent 5 from start to finish,” he stated during GSP Live.
“I need to analyze the match now with my staff. It’s crucial to recover my players, as they are fatigued from many matches in a short period. This phase demands a lot of effort. First, we need to analyze and then recover the players to approach the return match with a victory,” said Filipe Coelho following the Craiova – Ararat match.
