World Boxing has announced the obligation to perform gender tests for men and women who want to participate in the events organized by the new boxing for the box, informs the German press agency DPA.
The announcement comes two weeks before the inaugural World Championships in Liverpool, from September 4-14. The new measure came into effect on Wednesday.
“This policy has the role of ensuring the safety of all participants and offering the competitive level for men and women,” the World Boxing said.
All athletes who want to participate in a competition organized by World Boxing will have to go through at least one PCR genetic scan test to establish sex at birth and the eligibility to compete.
Last month, World Athletics also introduced sex test for athletes who want to compete in the female.
The debate on gender eligibility has attracted much attention in the public space last summer, from the Paris Olympics when Algerian Imane Khelif and Taiwanese Lin Y-IT won gold medals after receiving permission to compete from the International Olympic Committee (CIO).
However, a year before, they had been disqualified from the World Championships by the International Boxing Federation (IBA) after the alleged failed tests.
The IOC, who managed the last two Boxing Olympic Tournaments after suspended IBA for various reasons, said that both Khelif and Lin can compete because they were born and were identified as women.
The World Boxing was officially recognized as a partner by the CIO Executive Committee in February and will take over the organization of boxing competitions at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
