In a statement published on Wednesday, Sława Umińska-Kajdan emphasized that this is one of the most important decisions regarding the future of Piekary Śląskie. She indicated that its effects would feel for many years.

“Together we decide which solution is the best. Do we want to modernize old coal boiler rooms in our housing estates based on biomass? Or is their liquidation for the central heat source based on the waste incineration plant located at ul. Braniczna?” -wrote Sława Umińska-Kajdan in a statement.

She signaled that in this topic “there is no place for politics, protests and mutual claims.” She noted that she wanted this decision to be made by the inhabitants “on an equal time, in a reliable and democratic way.” She announced that the local government will not convince one or the other possibilities, but intends to present information on the basis of which residents will be able to make their own decision.

“The referendum is sometimes called the feast of democracy. This is the moment when the inhabitants have a real impact on specific decisions. This is the essence of democracy – common, responsible elections” – pointed out Sława Umińska -Kajdan and encouraged residents to participate in the referendum.

A press spokesman for the Piekary Śląskie City Hall Wojciech Maćkowski informed PAP that a resolution on conducting a local referendum should appear at the city council session at the end of August.

The constituting body – in this case the City Council of Piekary Śląskie – may decide to conduct a local referendum by an absolute majority of its composition. The resolution must include referendum questions, the date of the referendum, the form of the ballot cards and the calendar of referendum activities.

According to the law, the referendum must take place on a day off from work, at least 50 days from the publication of a resolution in the Provincial Official Journal. In the case of Piekary Śląskie it can take place at the end of October. The referendum will be important if at least 30 percent take part in it. entitled to vote. (PAP)
