The Minister of Education, Daniel David, met with the students, on Tuesday, on the occasion of the National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania (ANOSR) from Timisoara, to discuss the measures regarding the fiscal-budgetary crisis with impact on the university environment and of the students in particular, according to the statement sent by the ministry.

Daniel David told the students that the measures “are necessary to ensure that we will have the necessary budget for salaries and scholarships until the end of 2025, including to prepare the development and reforms in the field in 2026,” says the Ministry of Education in the transmitted statement.

“No one wanted them and would not have been taken in this form under normal conditions, and the fact that they are temporary shows the opening of the Government of Romania to return when the fiscal-budgetary conditions will allow this,” said the Minister of Education, quoted in the statement.

The ministry says that Daniel David also “also pointed out some measures and steps trying to reduce the effect of these measures on students (eg the autonomy of universities to engage with their own funds, coordination with local authorities, flexing the granting period, etc.)”.

“In order to prepare the post-critical moment and to bring an optimistic commitment in the field, starting from the students' problematization, the minister has expressed his openness to discuss the reforms proposed in the QX report for higher education and research. In this context, it should be mentioned that, despite the financial restrictions, the budget allocated to the year 2023” He looks like in communication.

Student representatives warned that “the protests will continue”

According to the ministry, the representatives of the students said that new protest actions will take place if the measures are not modified.

“In a frame defined by Fair Play Academic, academic debates took place, and the minister Daniel David answered the questions asked by the students. On the occasion of this dialogue, the students' representatives stated that, in the absence of changing the crisis measures, the protests will continue ”, the ministry statement said.

The institution argues that Minister Daniel David “showed his opening to receive proposals” on the implementation of measures.

“Finally, the Minister of Education and Research has shown his openness to receive proposals regarding the most efficient implementation of the legal regulations assumed through the Governance Program and by the Fiscal-Bug up (L141/2025)-and such all parties in the coalition and their members from the Romanian Parliament-at the level of the Ministry, as well crisis ”, concluded the Ministry of Education.
