US President Donald Trump announced, on Monday night, after the discussions with the Ukrainian counterpart and European leaders at the White House, that he and the Russian president “started the arrangements” for a summit between Vladimir Putin and Volodimir Zelenski, to be followed by a trilateral meeting and the US President. The Kremlin confirmed that the discussion aimed at increasing the level of representation in the dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, according to Reuters.

After the summit with Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska, Donald Trump organized discussions with the President of Ukraine and a series of European leaders on Monday at the White House. In a post on social networks, he said that he also called his Russian counterpart in the margin of the Washington meeting.

“At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin and started the arrangements for a meeting, in a location that will be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenski. After that meeting takes place, we will have a trilateral, which will be with the two Presidents Plus,” said Trump.

Also on Monday night to Tuesday, the Russian Agency RIA reported that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump discussed in a 40-minute conversation about the possibility of increased representation in the discussions between the Russian and the Ukrainian part.

“The idea was discussed that the possibility of raising the level of the representatives of the Ukrainian and Russian parties – that is, of those representatives who participate in the direct negotiations, would be discussed,” said Yuri Usakov, Kremlin counselor, quoted by RIA.

What Zelenski and Trump had said about the trilateral with Putin

The subject was also addressed in the statements made by the presidents of the United States and Ukraine in the White House Oval Office, when Trump said that a trilateral summit attended by their Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, would provide “a good chance” to conclude the Ukraine war.

“If we do not have a trilateral, then the fights continue, and if we have, we have a good chance – I think if we have a trilateral there is a good chance to put an end to (war, no),” said Donald Trump.

Located near Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Volodimir Zelenski also said that he is prepared for a trilateral summit with Russian and United States presidents. “We must stop this war, stop Russia,” said the leader of Ukraine, quoted by CNN.

A document developed before the discussions at the White House – and consulted by the Financial Times – shows that Ukraine intended to promise that it will buy US $ 100 billion, funded by Europe, in an attempt to obtain American guarantees for a peace solution with Russia. The proposal also provides, among other things, an agreement of $ 50 billion between Kiev and Washington for drone production with Ukrainian companies.
