France “protects and will always protect its Jewish citizens,” Elysee Palace said on Tuesday, in reply to the letter in which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused President Emmanuel Macron of fueled anti -Semitism by the announcement of the recognition of the Palestinian state.
The Elysee Palace claims that the accusation launched by the Israeli Prime Minister against the French President is “abject” and “erroneous”, as well as that Netanyahu's letter “will not remain unanswered”.
“This is a moment for seriousness and responsibility, not for confusion and manipulation,” the Elysee Palace added.
The situation was also commented on by the French Minister for European Affairs, Benjamin Haddad, who claims that France has no “lesson to be learned in the fight against anti -Semitism.”
“I would like to say very clearly and very firmly that this problem of anti -Semitism, which poisons our European societies (…), cannot be exploited,” Benjamin Haddad said on the BFMTV television station.
Macron, criticized by Netanyahu
The reaction of Paris comes in the context in which the Israeli prime minister rebuked the French president, in a letter consulted by AFP on Tuesday. Netanyahu accused Macron of fuel anti -Semousism by the announcement made last month, when the leader of Elysee said that his country will officially recognize the state of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Your call for a Palestinian state pours fuel on this anti -Semitic fire. It is not diplomacy, it is pleased. It rewards the terror of Hamas, strengthens Hamas refusal to free the hostages, encourage those who threaten the French Jews and encourage hatred of the Jews, who now rogue you,” Natanyah wrote.
