At the press conference held on Tuesday at the White House, a response offered by the spokesman for the Trump administration, Karoline Leavitt, from the conversation with reporters, drew attention.
The press secretary said that US President Donald Trump seeks to obtain peace in Ukraine and “to reach heaven.”
She was asked about Trump's comment during the morning at Fox News.
During the interview given to the American post, Trump said: “If I can save 7,000 people a week from death, I think it is enough … I want to try to get to Heaven, if possible, because I heard that I am not doing very well.”
“I am truly at the end of the trophic chain. But if I can reach heaven, this will be one of the reasons,” the American leader said.
Asked about these comments in the conference on Tuesday night, Leavitt replied, quoted by Sky News: “I think the president spoke seriously. I think the president wants to reach heaven, as I hope we all present in this room.”
In the same interview with Fox News, Trump said he can provide personal guarantees that he will not send US troops to Ukraine to impose a peace agreement with Russia.
Trump excludes sending US troops to Ukraine and says who should handle security guarantees: “You have my insurance, and I'm the president”
At the same time, the US president said he hopes that Vladimir Putin will “behave well” and take steps forward to put an end to the Ukraine war, but he acknowledged that the Russian president would not want to conclude an agreement.
“To be honest, I don't think it will be a problem. I think Putin has been tired (war, no). I think everyone is tired, but it is never known,” Trump said.
Trump made these statements the day after receiving Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and European leaders at the White House for discussions about his peace efforts, a meeting that followed the summit between US President and Vladimir Putin, organized in Alaska.
“We will find out about President Putin in the next two weeks … He may not want to conclude an agreement,” Trump said, adding that Putin will face a “difficult situation” if he is not willing to reach an agreement to stop the war in Ukraine.
