President Nicușor Dan states, in a message posted on the X network, that the meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and the Russian Vladimir Putin represents “a first stage to start peace negotiations” in the war triggered by Russia in Ukraine, negotiations that “must take into account the interests of Ukraine”. According to the head of state, it is “essential for Trump to put pressure on Russia to continue negotiations. Russia must be clearly engaged on the path of peace, and the attacks will cease.”

“The meeting in Alaska was a first stage to start peace negotiations. Efforts in this direction of President Donald Trump are meant to stop this illegal war and prepare the way to a fair and sustainable peace. These negotiations must take into account the interests of Ukraine, but also of the Europeans. That President Zelenski will go to Washington to talk to President Trump about the next steps, ”wrote President Dan in his message.

“For Ukraine it is also essential for President Donald Trump to put pressure on Russia to continue negotiations. We support his efforts to organize a trilateral summit. Russia must be clearly engaged, and attacks on civilians and civil infrastructure must cease.”

“International borders should not be changed by force”

Nicușor Dan also reports that “our position has remained unchanged, in support of Ukraine and principles related to sovereignty and territorial integrity and reaching an unconditional cessation of hostilities. International borders should not be changed by force.”

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski also announced that he had spoke an hour on the phone with Donald Trump after the summit, and on Monday he will go to Washington to discuss with him “all the details on the cessation of killings and war.”
