The first official reaction in Bucharest after the Trump-Putin summit: We continue to be active in the peace effort

Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu says, in a message posted on the X network, that the Alaska summit was “a first step towards unlocking the negotiations”, and Romania will continue “to be an active part of this common effort for peace”.

“The Alaska dialogue was a first step towards unlocking the negotiations and we welcome President Trump's invitation for a meeting with President Zelenski to Washington. The new developments of international peace dialogue in Ukraine are positive and the involvement of the US, together with the perspective and European actions, can be decisive for obtaining more,” message posted on X.

This is the first reaction transmitted by Romania at the official level after the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, which ended after almost three hours without a fire termination agreement for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has announced that he spoke an hour on the phone with Donald Trump after the summit, and on Monday he goes to Washington to talk to him “all the details of the cessation of murders and war.”

“We remain convinced that by transatlantic unity and European solidarity we can rebuild a future in which peace and sustainable security is the basis of prosperity in the region. Romania is and will continue to be an active part of this common effort for peace and economic growth, the stability and security of the Black Sea region are essential,” Oana Ţoiu said.
