European officials expressed their disappointment and revolt on August 16, after the long-awaited meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended without a ceasefire for Ukraine, writes Kyiv Independent.

Trump and Putin met on Friday in Alaska to discuss the possible closing of the Ukraine war. They concluded the negotiations of almost three hours with common statements without announcing a armistice or a concrete step towards this objective.

Like Ukraine, Europe was prevented from participating in the Alaska summit, where Trump met Putin with the red carpet and ended with a common press conference in which both leaders were of the opinion that the main fault for the Russian invasion started in 2022 is the US President Joe Biden.

Officials from different European countries reacted on social networks after the summit.

“No real progress – clear score 1: 0 for Putin”

“Putin was greeted with the red Trump carpet, Trump did not get anything,” wrote German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger on X.

“As it was to be afraid: no armistice, no peace. No real progress – clear score 1: 0 for Putin – no new sanction. For Ukrainians: nothing. For Europe: deeply disappointing,” added Ischinger, former ambassador to the US.

During the press conference after the summit, Putin issued a cryptic warning for Kiev and his European allies not to “disrupt emerging progress” of peace negotiations. He also said that Russia's requests include “a fair balance in security in Europe.”

Russia continued to bomb the civilian on the day of the summit

The Minister of Defense of Lithuania, Sakalian pumps, said that Putin's statements are equivalent to “psychological manipulation and veiled threats.”

Sakalie also mentioned that throughout the summit, Russia continued to “bomb the civilians in Ukraine.”

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said he was welcoming Trump's peace, but warned the Kremlin's propaganda.

“The problem is Russian imperialism, not Ukraine's desire to live free.
