US President Donald Trump has presented a large peace plan for the Gaza strip on Monday in the margin of the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said that he supports the US leader, according to AFP and BBC.

“A historic day for peace,” Donald Trump said in a common press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that many countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates contributed.

“Hamas will be disarmed. Gaza will be demilitarized,” the US president added.

Israel agreed with the plan in 20 points, but Hamas, no. The Palestinian militant organization claims that it has not yet received a copy of the US proposed plan.

“I support your plan for the conclusion of the war in Gaza, which reaches our war objectives. It will bring us back to Israel all the hostages, will abolish the military capabilities of Hamas, put an end to its political regime and ensure that Gaza will never be a threat to Israel,” Netanyahu said.

What the US Plan provides for

Before the common press conference of the two leaders, the White House published details about the American Plan of Peace for Gaza.

If followed, the plan will start with the immediate termination of military operations. It is also stated that the existing “battle lines” will be frozen.

According to the plan, Hamas must deposit the weapons, and his offensive armament will be destroyed. Within 72 hours, 20 living Israeli hostages and the inanimate bodies of over 20 Israeli hostages are believed to be dead within 72 hours.

Once these hostages will be released, according to the proposal, Israel will release hundreds of prisoners from Gaza.

“Full help will be sent immediately to the Gaza strip” once both sides will agree with the plan, writes in the project.

No role for Hamas in future government

The US also presented its plan for the future governance of the Gaza strip. According to the proposal, a “Palestinian technocrat and apolitical committee” will temporarily govern “under the monitoring and supervision of a new international transition body, the Peace Council, which will be led” by Trump. Former British prime minister Tony Blair and other leaders “who will be announced” will be part of the management body.

It is mentioned that Hamas should not play any role in government, “directly, indirectly or in any other form.”

“The threat represented by Hamas will be destroyed,” Trump said.

Much of the plane focuses on what the US calls an “economic development plan” for the reconstruction of the Gaza strip. It is also stated that “Israel will not occupy or Annex Gaza” and that its forces will withdraw from the territory in stages, over time.

The plan leaves open and the possibility of a Palestinian state.
