After Donald Trump was informed about what he talked to Vladimir Putin, European leaders consulted on Saturday morning and sent a message to welcome peace efforts and say they are ready to collaborate for a trilateral summit, but they stressed that there are some conditions.
Previously Donald Tusk said that this common statement was prepared after European leaders evaluated the information received from Donald Trump and listened to what Volodimir Zelenski has to say.
Leaders have greeted President Trump's efforts to stop Ukraine's murders, to end the Russia's aggression war and to achieve a fair and sustainable peace, it is said in the statement signed by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Leyen and by European leaders Emmanuel Macron (France), Giorgia Meroi (Italy), Fried. Keir Starmer (UK), Alexander Stubb (Finland), Donald Tusk (Poland) and Antonio Costa (president of the European Council).
“As President Trump said,” there is no agreement until an agreement is reached. ” As President Trump has envisaged, the next step must now be the continuation of the discussions, including President Zelenski, with whom he will meet soon. We are also prepared to collaborate with President Trump and President Zelenski in order to organize a trilateral summit with the support of Europe, ”the statement said.
What European leaders say that is not negotiable
However, European leaders also sent the message that peace cannot be obtained under any conditions:
- We are convinced that Ukraine must benefit from solid security guarantees in order to effectively defend its territorial sovereignty and integrity. We welcome President Trump's statement that the US is ready to provide security guarantees. The coalition of the will is ready to play an active role.
- Restrictions on the armed forces of Ukraine or its cooperation with third countries should not be imposed.
- Russia cannot exercise the right of veto over Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO.
- Ukraine will be the one that will make decisions about its territory. International borders should not be modified by force.
“Our support for Ukraine will continue”
“We are determined to do more to maintain strong Ukraine, in order to cease the struggles and to establish a fair and durable peace.
As long as Ukraine's killings are continuing, we are ready to maintain the pressure on Russia. We will continue to strengthen the lower sanctions and measures to exert pressure on Russia's war economy until a fair and sustainable peace will be established.
Ukraine can count on our unwavering solidarity in our efforts to achieve a peace that protects the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe, ”the statement said.
