The largest event in Alaska. Residents are planning demonstrations
Meeting in less than 300,000 residents of Alaska's largest city is the largest diplomatic event in the history of this place, although there were other leaders' meetings before – in 1971 between President Richard Nixon and the Japanese emperor Hirohito (also in the Elmendorf base), and in 1984 – between Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II. According to Frank Murkowski, a former senator and governor of the state, as well as the father of the current Republican Senator, Lisa Murkowski, during this second meeting discussed, among others Secret US support for solidarity through the CIA and the Catholic Church.
Due to the quickly prepared peak and tourist season, almost all hotels in Anchorage were fully reserved. According to estimates of the city police, up to 700 journalists from around the world could come to Anchorage.
Part of the city's inhabitants, which is currently a liberal island on a conservative Alaska, plan demonstrations against both leaders. The first were already held on Thursday, when several hundred people with Ukrainian flags and banners against Putin and Trump gathered at the Midtown Mall shopping center. Subsequent actions are planned for Friday.
For Vladimir Putin it will be an eighth visit to the USA, but the first in 10 years. During his last journey, the Russian leader performed in September 2015 at the UN General Assembly forum in New York.
