“I can see the fascists from my window.” Protests in the state of Alaska before the Putin-TRUMP summit

Hundreds of inhabitants of Alaska gathered on Thursday at a busy anchorage intersection to protest the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, writes the local press.

The flags of Ukraine were present everywhere, along with a band, foreign journalists and creative banners, some criticizing Trump's policies unrelated to Summit, others specifically aiming on Friday's meeting between the two leaders.

“I can see the fascists from my window”wrote on a poster, an allusion to the parody “Saturday Night Live ” After the famous 2008 remark of the former governor Sarah Palin about the proximity between Alaska and Russia.

Posters displayed in the city said: “Ukraine and Alaska – Russia, never again”, “Putin will not stop at Ukraine” and “Alaska is with Ukraine.”

According to the Russian state press, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russia's ambassador to the US, Aleksandr Darceiev, arrived in Alaska before the Trump-Putin summit.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin arrived in the city of Magadan, in the Far East Russian, where he is about to meet the local governor and visit an industrial unit before leaving for Alaska, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, according to Kyiv Independent.

Before the meeting, the White House said that Trump prefers diplomacy, but is ready to intensify the economic pressure on Russia, if necessary, to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine.

“Of course, there are sanctions and many other measures that the president could use, if necessary. Not that they would like this … Diplomacy and negotiation have always been the way of this president.”on August 14, the press bearing of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, said.

Trump has previously said that if the meeting on August 15 will run well, he will try to organize a trilateral meeting between him, Putin and President Volodimir Zelenski.
