Sir John Sawers, the former head of the British Foreign Intelligence Service, told Sky News that if a peace agreement in Alaska will be reached today, “it would be very bad news for Ukraine.”
“I do not expect this meeting to be a clear peace plan,” said John Sawers.
“If it exists, it is a very bad news for Ukraine, because if Putin manages to block President Trump in a position close to Russia's idea of how the war will end, Ukraine could practically be subjugated to the Kremlin,” added Sawers.
Former MI6 chief appreciated that people are right to be “skeptical” towards Putin, but says there is “an opportunity in Alaska” today.
“I think any effort to end the war is welcome and there is an opportunity here. No matter how skeptical, I am about Putin, there is an opportunity to start a process that could end this conflict,” said John Sawers.
