The Turkish Council for Agricultural and Food Policy has prepared a report to be presented to President Recep Erdogan. The document contains legislative proposals aimed at limiting the waste of food, primarily in the tourism industry.
“As many as half of the breakfasts in the All Inclusive formula go to the basket” – Alert Ramazan Bingol, a member of the Council for Agricultural and Food Policy. As he explains, the problem is not only excessive choice, but also regulations introduced by the hotels themselves.
“Three or four people could easily eat breakfast for two, but many places introduce limits, preventing meals from sharing,” he adds.
No more all inclusive in Turkey?
One of the solutions considered is to replace the All Inclusive system with the à la carte model, in which guests order specific dishes and portions.
“People take everything, enjoying a large choice, but they are not able to eat it. Millions of lira land in the basket,” emphasizes Bingol.
Although the new regulations can significantly reduce waste, they potentially mean large changes for the hotel industry. The All Inclusive system has been one of the key elements attracting tourists to Turkey for years. The introduction of the à la carte model can change the way travelers use hotel services, as well as affect prices and offer.
