A simple fishing party in Kent, held during the US Vice -President, JD Vance, had special attention after the host, the British Foreign Minister David Lammy, has publicly and publicly acknowledged that he and his guest have fished illegally.
The fishing party took place at Chevening House, an official Kent residence, where David Lammy invited Jd Vance and his family for a relaxing afternoon. In the private lake of the field, the two have fished freshwater species for which the British legislation requires a permit in the case of fishermen over 13 years old, notes The Guardian.
While the American official joked about this moment, telling that all his children caught fish, unlike the British minister, who failed to capture, the latter wanted to publicly self -denounce for the fact that the match was an illegal one, putting this situation on account of an “administrative negligence”. Permissions should have been purchased beforehand, but David Lammy bought them immediately after being informed about their obligation and wrote to the Environment Agency, recognizing the violation and thanking for the protection of fish resources.
Subsequently, the Environment Agency confirmed that the licenses were obtained and that all the captured fish were released.
Protests of the locals
JD Vance, on vacation with his wife, Usha, and the three children, stayed in Charlbury, a small town of about 3,000 inhabitants of Oxfordshire County. The choice of the residence Dean Manor, a Georgian house in the eighteenth century, brought a wave of security measures: closed roads, police control points and even a temporary heliport.
Although the owners of the building, Pippa and Johnny Hornby, apologize to the community for the “circus” caused by the presence of the US Vice -President, not everyone in the area was delighted by the visit of the American dignitary.
The coalition “Stop Trump” organized a protest event with the theme “Vance is not welcome”, attended by about 100 people with banners and satirical cakes. The protesters criticized Vance's positions regarding the abortion and rights of the LGBTQ+community.
Official meetings
Apart from the moments of relaxation, Vance's visit included meetings with high -ranking British politicians, including members of the conservative opposition, such as Robert Jenrick and Chris Philp, but also a breakfast with Nigel Farage, the president of the far right party Reformed UK.
Regarding official discussions with Foreign Minister David Lammy, topics such as the Ukraine, Gaza conflict, trade exchanges and Washington concerns were addressed to certain provisions of British legislation, such as the online safety law.
In the end, JD Vance described Lammy as “a good friend” and “a very, very kind host”, despite the incident with the fishing permit.
