Former South Korea lady was arrested. A luxury pendant and two Chanel bags attracted the attention of prosecutors

Former South Korea lady, Kim Keon Hee, the wife of former President Defitted Yoon Suk Yeol, arrives at the court for a hearing on reviewing the arrest warrant issued by special prosecutors, Seoul, South Korea, on August 12.
Former South Korea first lady, Kim Keon Hee, was arrested after a court on Tuesday evening issued an arrest warrant on her behalf, following the corruption accusations she denies, informs the South Korean Yonhap News Agency, according to Reuters.
Kim is the only former first lady of South Korea who was arrested, joining her husband, former president Yoon Suk Yeol, who is in prison and is to be tried, after being dismissed in April, following an failed attempt to impose the martial law in December last year.
Earlier during the day, Kim, dressed in a black costume, tilted upon arrival at the court, but did not answer the reporters' questions and made no statement. After the meeting was completed, she left to wait for the decision in a detention center in Seoul, the capital of the country, according to the usual practice.
The arrest warrant was issued by the central court in Seoul.
The accusations made against her, which can be punished with years of imprisonment, vary from a scholarship to bribery and influence trafficking, who have involved businessmen, religious personalities and a strong political influence broker.
She was accused of violating the law in an incident in which she wore a luxury pendant Van Cleef, worth over 60 million won ($ 43,000), while participating in a NATO summit in 2022.
According to the accusation, the object did not appear in the financial declaration of the couple, as provided by the law.
Kim is also accused of receiving two Chanel bags in a total value of 20 million woni and a diamond necklace from a religious group, as a bribe in exchange for his favorable influence on the commercial interests of the group.
The prosecutor's office has requested Kim's arrest because it could destroy evidence and interfere with the investigation, a spokesman for the Special Prosecutor's team said in a press conference after hearing on Tuesday.
The spokesman, Oh Jeong-hee, said Kim told the prosecutors that the pendant he wore was a fake 20 years ago in Hong Kong.
The prosecutor's office, however, stated that the pendant was authentic and had been offered by a construction company in the country for Kim to wear it at the summit, OH said.
Kim's lawyers did not immediately comment on Tuesday, but previously denied the accusations against it and rejected the reports of some of the gifts they would have received.
Her husband, Yoon Suk Yeol, is tried for insurrection charges, which could lead to life imprisonment or even death penalty.
The former president, who is accused, among other things, of abuse of power, denied the facts and refused to attend the court hearings or be interrogated by prosecutors.
