Marco Rubio, an attack on the French president: “Discussions with Hamas collapsed on the day Macron made the decision to recognize the state of Palestine.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that French President Emmanuel Macron carries some of the fault for the failure to cease the fire between Israel and Hamas. “The discussions with Hamas collapsed on the day when Macron made the unilateral decision to recognize the state of Palestine,” Rubio said, in an interview with the show Over.

According to Rubio, Macron's announcement that France will recognize the Palestinian state in September, caused Hamas to reject an agreement with Israel, considering himself “supported” and “rewarded.”

“Discussions with Hamas collapsed on the day Macron made the unilateral decision to recognize the state of Palestine,” said the American official on August 8th.

Rubio warned that this position of Paris, followed by similar statements from other countries, seriously complicated diplomatic efforts, allowing Hamas to “proclame Victoria” and refuse the armistice. He qualified the French initiative as “a palm for the victims of October 7, 2023”.

Macron's announcement came in certain conditions, such as the complete demilitarization of Hamas, its exclusion from any form of government and the recognition of Israel by the future Palestinian state.

However, the United States withdrew from negotiations the same day, and the prospect of an agreement seems more distant, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his intention to conquer Gaza.
