Officials from Ukraine and Europe rejected the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin on an armistice in exchange for Kiev's assignment in favor of Russia, Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said on Saturday, according to The Kyiv Independent. In contrast, during the discussion at Chevening House in Kent, they submitted to American officials.

Concerned that they will look from the edge the summit they will have in Alaska the presidents of the United States and Russia on Friday, high-ranking officials in Europe and Ukraine have met with London on Saturday to talk to US officials both to understand Vladimir Putin's position and to make sure Donald Trump is aware of The New York Times.

“You cannot start a process by giving up the territories in the middle of the battles.”

Two European officials familiar with the discussions told WSJ that Europe aims to draw a red line with Ukraine, demanding the involvement of EU officials in any potential peace negotiation with Russia and reiterating that the future of Ukraine cannot be discussed without Kiev's participation.

The opposition present to the American Vice-President JD Vance, a co-thought of the meeting, and the special US emissaries Keith Kellogg and Steve Witkoff also requires a cessation of fire before enterprise other actions, mentioning at the same time that the exchange of territories can only occur in a mutual manner, the WSJ said.

“You cannot start a process by giving up the territories in the middle of the fights,” said a European WSJ negotiator.

According to NYT, Europeans are trying to get direct information about the discussion this week had President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump's special emissary Steve Witkoff, on the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

As the Europeans understand the proposal of the Russian leader, he wants Russian control over the entire Donbas in Ukraine, including areas that Moscow forces do not currently control. Instead, Putin would agree with an armistice that would freeze the current lines in other places, including in Herson and Zaporojie areas, where Russian troops also control portions of territory.

Vladimir Putin's proposal offers him “everything he wants in exchange for nothing”

Expressing the concern about the opening of the US to start negotiations on the work frame proposed by Putin, as well as skepticism towards the intention of the Russian President to truly respect the armistice, a European official told the WSJ that “the proposal is much worse than Trump said during the call”, and another said that “Putin”.

On Wednesday night, when he was informed about the discussion between Putin and Witkoff, Trump had described to European leaders the guidelines in the proposal of the Russian counterpart, including the idea of exchanging territory, causing consistency among European officials.

At that time, the US president did not provide too many details about Putin's offer, but indicated that the proposed exchange includes Russian control over the entire Donbas region, two high -ranking European officials said.

The Ukrainians first want a cessation of fire, and then will be prepared to discuss territorial compromises. However, Ukraine is not prepared to give up the territories that Russia does not currently occupy, as President Zelenski clearly transmitted, and rejects any permanent loss of the Ukrainian sovereign territory under international law.

Europeans are worried that Trump and Putin will reach an agreement alone that they will then impose on Ukraine. Europeans are trying to emphasize the US president that Ukraine should be present at the negotiations and that the days of Ialta, when the Americans and Russians have divided Europe, have long been set, said the two European officials, who participated in the UK meeting.
