Against the background of massive current interruptions in Spain and Portugal, the Ukrainian Minister of Energy, German Galușchenko, offered his country's support on Monday, writes Sky News.

Ukraine is a country that has been currently affected by power feathers, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of 2022, its energy infrastructure being one of the main targets of the attacks and bombings of the Russian forces.

In a message published on the social network X, German Galușchenko said that Ukraine is “ready to help restore the stable functioning of our partners and allies in Europe.”

“We are ready to share our knowledge and experience, including those acquired during Russia's systematic attacks on energy infrastructure. We are grateful to the EU countries for the support provided and we are always here to provide assistance,” added the government official from Kiev, without specifying what can be, what can be.

Announcement of the European Commission

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Monday that the European Executive will monitor the situation in the Iberian Peninsula, affected by a total current, together with the Spanish and European authorities, as well as the electricity coordination group.

Spain and Portugal were affected by a generalized current that paralyzed public transport, caused traffic jams and delayed flights.

In an X post, Ursula von der Leyen says he spoke to the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and offered his support.

“We will coordinate our efforts and exchange information to contribute to the restoration of the electricity system and we have agreed to keep a close contact,” added the head of the European Commission.

The European Commission is in contact with the authorities in Spain and Portugal and the European network of Transport Systems operators to try to establish the cause of the interruption, notes News.ro.

Utility operators have tried to restore the network, but the Spanish operator of Red Eléctrica electricity transport said that the Pana, whose cause is not yet known, could take between six and ten hours.

Officials said that it is not excluded that it was caused by a cyber attack.

Until the current caused chaos in some parts of Portugal and Spain, because the traffic lights ceased to operate, causing blockages. The transport networks were stopped, the hospitals were left without electricity, and the people were stuck in the subway and in elevators.

In Madrid, hundreds of people were in the street in front of office buildings, and around important buildings was a massive police presence, which directed traffic on central boulevards.

Current feathers of this extent are rare in Europe. In 2003, a hydroelectric line between Italy and Switzerland caused a major interruption of electricity supply throughout the Italian peninsula, for about 12 hours, notes Reuters.
