The Romanian Amphitheater from Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa was reopened to the public on Friday announced the Hunedoara County Council, on Facebook. The purpose of the project was to preserve, restore and enhance the archaeological monument, the authorities say.
“Our intention was to preserve the ruin and allow visitors, from here to perceive it, to visit it, to have the experience of this space as it was for 100 years. But we have not limited to preservation, but we added another layer. The architects of Romania, quoted in the omunicat transmitted by CJ Hunedoara.
The authorities mention that the Amphitheater from Sarmizegetusa is “the only archaeological monument in Romania that allows such a recovery of the original function, while preserving the unaltered character of the ruin”.

Laurențiu Nistor, president of CJ Hunedoara, said that the total value of the project was 22 million lei, financed by ROP 2014-2020 and the Regional Program West 2021–2027.
“We have shown, through this work, that when science, experience and respect for history are interwoven, the result is a reference intervention on the cultural heritage. I thank the National Heritage Institute, ADR West, the design team, the museographers and to all those involved in the success of this approach.
