How to stop Russia? Jermak in “WP”: A full economic lock needed

To change the trajectory of war in Ukraine, a full economic blockade of Russia is needed – writes the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andrij Jermak, in the Washington Post. The politician advises President Trump to impose sanctions, including on Roskosmos and Rosatom and Russian ports.

In the text published on Monday, the Advisor of President Zelanski thank Donald Trump and supports his decision to impose sanctions on Russia, but points out that “to really change the trajectory of war, it is necessary to tighten the sanctions.” In the text, he presents a whole list of sanctions, calling for “full economic blockade of Russia”.

Jermak's recommendations include Applying sanctions on the Roskosmos Space Agency – as engaged in Russia's nuclear program – and atomic group of Rosatom, conducting the occupation of the Zaporoska nuclear power plant. Jermak also offers, among others Excluding from the SWIFT banking system the only large Russian bank that remained in it – Gazprombank, as well as the tightening of secondary sanctions to cut off the networks with which Russia bypasses current restrictions.

Zelanski's adviser praises Trump's announcement about the imposition of “punishment” to India for buying Russian oil, claiming that “she certainly shook the Kremlin.” He added, however, that additional restrictions are needed. Russian ports involved in oil exports, tanker operators from the “shadow fleet” and ships, intermediaries in supply chains to the Russian army or entities responsible for cryptocurrency mechanisms, through which Russia avoids restriction.

“Ultimatum, which (Trump) put to Putin, expires this week. Thousands of human lives depend on successful steps. However, tools to stop Russia exist. However, political will is needed to use them precisely and effectively,” Jermak summed up.
