Don't let the bill surprise you – be informed, be effective

Every time we turn on the light or start the washing machine, we make a gesture that seems trivial. And yet, that simple “click” activates a whole network: power stations that produce energy, transport lines, distributors, suppliers, teams that work 24/7 so that everything works without interruptions.

We pay monthly for this essential service. But what do we pay, actually? And what can we do to consume more efficiently and reduce the value of the bill?

Of all the invoices that come in a household, the one from the electricity is the most detailed payment note-and it is precisely this transparency, sometimes it seems complicated. In reality, it shows us very clearly where our money goes.

A simple example: a bus ticket. When we pay, we do not pay just the trip. That price enters: fuel, driver's salary, maintenance, cleaning, taxes and other costs. All these expenses exist, even if we do not see them mentioned on the ticket.

The energy bill, on the other hand, explains them in detail. About 45% represent regulated costs – established by the state, which cannot be influenced by changing the supplier. This includes the tariff for the transport of energy through high voltage networks, over long distances, and the distribution rate – the network that brings the energy to our homes or business. These rates are established and approved by the national authority and include costs for the safe operation of the system, as well as investments in modern infrastructure. To these are added contributions imposed by the state, which the suppliers only collect and transfer: support schemes for renewable sources (green certificates, CFD), supporting cogeneration, VAT and excise duties.

The rest is the competitive component: the energy itself, bought by the supplier on the wholesale market, at the market price. Balancing services are included (to ensure the exact delivery of energy when needed) and the supplier's operational expenses.

What can we do?

We have more power than we believe. In Romania there are over 40 active suppliers. We can compare the offers on the official ANRE platform. We can transmit the self -excited index monthly to avoid high regularization. And, above all, we can become more efficient.

Monitoring of one's own consumption

The first step is to know how much we consume when. Many suppliers already provide online applications or platforms where you can track your consumption. This information can help you identify unnecessary consumption peaks, devices that consume excessively or habits that can be adjusted.

Even if the reading of the meter is performed periodically by the distributor, in order to avoid the regularization invoices with large amounts, it is recommended to communicate the self -titled index monthly.

Checking offers on the market

Suppliers are obliged to publish the offers on the official comparator on the ANRE website. There you can consult the updated prices, the contractual conditions and the type of offer (with a fixed or variable price).

Small investments for high efficiency

No significant investments are needed. You can start with: LED bulbs instead of the classic ones, removing unused appliances, choosing appliances from higher energy classes (A, A+, A ++), air conditioning at 24 ° C-each degree in minus means a higher consumption by 6-8%.

Energy is an essential service that does not come by itself. Behind each lit bulb is an entire network that works 24/7: producers, carrier, distributors, suppliers. The monthly bill is not just an expense – it is a clear image of the common effort that makes our modern life possible. And our daily choices can make a difference.
