The volcano is located in the Kamceatka Peninsula in the extreme Russian East. With a height of over 1,800 meters, the volcano issued a column of ash that rose up to 6,000 meters in the atmosphere, according to the local branch of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations.

“The column spread to the east, to the Pacific Ocean,” The authorities said, stressing that there were no localities or groups of tourists in the impact area.

Krașeninnikov is one of the approximately 30 active volcanoes in the Kamceatka Peninsula, one of the most active seismic areas in the world, at the intersection of Pacific and North American tectonic plates.

According to Smithsonian Institution, the last known eruption of the volcano took place around 1550.

“We are currently observing a crack in the flank and the formation of a lava dome, which is accompanied by a strong gas activity”, He told RIA Novosti Natalia Guirina, the head of the response team to the volcanic eruptions in Kamceatka (Kvert), taken by News.ro.

On Wednesday, the highest volcano in the peninsula, Kliutcevskoi (4,750 m), erupted, and over 65 earthquakes were recorded on Saturday, 10 of them being felt in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamceatski.

Kamceatka is largely uninhabited. However, the region attracts tourists due to spectacular landscapes, natural parks and rich fauna, including brown bears.
