Extreme weather phenomena in eastern Australia. 40 cm snow and major floods

East Australia faced extreme weather phenomena this weekend, after a cold air mass has brought the thickest layer of snow in recent decades and torrential rains that caused flooding.

In the northern state of the Australian New South Wales, the snow layer has reached up to 40 centimeters – an unmoved amount of the 1980s, according to meteorologist Miriam Bradbury from the Australian Meteorological Service. Snow has been reported in Queensland, where he hadn't been snowing for almost a decade, Reuters reported.
Climatic changes have led to an increase in atmospheric instability in Australia, but such episodes have taken place over time. “What this unusual event does is both the large amount of snow and its expansion, which includes a significant part of the northern plate.” Bradbury explained.
Against the background of the blizzard and rain, the authorities of New South Wales intervened in over 1,400 emergency situations. Dozens of cars were stuck in the snow, the storms damaged buildings, and in several regions were issued major flood warnings.
The Australian Public Public Broadcasting Corp said tens of thousands of homes were left without electricity.
A tradiw hit on Saturday night when a car was caught by water in New South Wales. A passenger, about 20 years old, was taken by the flood, and the intervention teams still look for it on Sunday.
