Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere criticizes Trump's duties on goods

– Tariffs in trade between Norway and the United States should be zero Stoere said in an official announcement. He emphasized that the decision about duties is a step in the wrong direction, especially since trade talks between the parties lasted for several weeks.
The introduction of new duties will hardly hit the Norwegian fish industry, especially salmon producers. Upon hearing of Trump's decision, the main stock index in Oslo (OSBX) fell after opening by 0.65 percent, and the biggest losses were suffered by companies related to the export of fish.
– The American market is very important for salmon producers. They will suffer the most – commented Christian Olsen Nordby, an analyst at Arctic Securities, quoted by E24.no.
According to the data of the Norwegian Statistical Office of the SSB In 2024, the value of exports from Norway to the US was about $ 5.8 billion, and imports from the US exceeded $ 8 billion.
The new duties, signed by Donald Trump on Thursday, will cover goods from over 70 countries. In most cases, the rate is 15 percent, with higher tariffs – including 35 percent – applied to the goods of Canada. According to the White House message, the lower rates covered countries with a small commercial surplus towards the USA and those that signed agreements, such as the EU, Japan and South Korea.
