The National Meteorological Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for the metropolitan area, in force from 14 on Thursday (20 in Poland) until 8 on Friday (at 14 Polish time on Friday), as well as a warning against storms until 20 on Thursday (2 in Poland). The city authorities appeal to the residents to avoid travel and maintain special vigilance, especially those living in low -located areas.
– We have implemented an emergency plan in the event of an instant flood and we work closely with the National Meteorological Service and partner agencies. […] This applies especially to people living in the basement or other room below the ground level – said the city's commissioner for crisis management Zach Iscol, quoted by Gothamist.
Weather alerts for residents
New York Governor Kathy Hochul assured that state agencies are ready for heavy rains and potential floods. She encouraged residents to sign up for weather alerts and notifications in real time by sending SMS messages.
The last heavy rains that hit the region at the beginning of the month caused serious traffic problems and flooded public transport systems, including the metro and suburban railway. In nearby Plainfield in New Jersey, two people lost their lives when their car flood water pushed into a nearby stream.
