Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan wants Mihai Jurca to take over the position of deputy prime minister, sources from the ruling coalition say. Jurca, currently the head of the chancellery at the Victoria Palace, is one of Ilie Bolojan's close friends. The two worked together at Oradea City Hall. Then Bolojan was appointed presidential counselor in the interim mandate at the Cotroceni Palace.
Mihai Jurca would coordinate the reform of the public system, the project started by Dragoș Anastasiu. A first discussion about the appointment of a new Deputy Prime Minister will take place on Wednesday, at the Coalition Coalition meeting, the sources quoted.
If Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will appoint a deputy prime minister without political membership instead of Dragoș Anastasiu, the government should not receive a new vote from Parliament.
In contrast, if in the place of Anastasiu – who did not have a party book – the prime minister will appoint a PSD, PNL, USR or UDMR politician, then the structure of the Government will be changed, therefore a new investment vote is needed. And a vote of confidence in Parliament could actually lead to the Executive's fall.
Dragoș Anastasiu organized, on Sunday, a conference in which he announced his resignation as Deputy Prime Minister, against the background of public and political pressure generated by his disclosures in an corruption file regarding the bribery of an ANAF function between 2009-2017.
Dragoș Anastasiu explained, during the conference, why he waited a few days before resigning. The moment he wanted to thank the family, the Deputy Prime Minister put a knot in his throat, and the emotion made him burst into tears.
“At this moment, in this climate, it is very clear to me that I can no longer help. No matter what I would say or what I would do, the process of denigration will continue – starting, perhaps, from some real facts, but pushed to the extreme and used to compromise“Anastasiu said.
He stated that he had discussed with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and he was openly communicated to assume: “I told him the risk is to do more harm than good. And that it's time to take a step in the side or back-as you want to say-and to show my resignation”.
How Dragoș Anastasiu tried to justify the bribe
On the day he announced his resignation from the position of Deputy Prime Minister, Anastasiu explained that there are two types of swords: “survival and enrichment” and that, in his case “The situation was one of survival”.
“I would like to say a very clear thing from the beginning. There was a recent study on the bribe in Romania. There are two types of bribe: the survival bribe and the enrichment bribe. In the 1990s, the bribe was with the envelope or the suitcase. From the 2000s, things have changed: no other forms, but with other forms”. In our case, the situation was a survival. Throughout the period when these contracts continued, with unpaid invoices, our company was in an area of fear and adaptation. Survival ”, said the former Deputy Prime Minister.
