Portugal exacerbates the rules. New resorts for immigrants


Tenders for the construction of two centers of temporary stay for illegal immigrants are to be announced soon. According to the police, both centers will be put into service at the latest in mid -2026. There will be about 150 beds in each of them.

Currently in Portugal there is one such center located in the Porto agglomeration.

According to the investment plans, the cost of building one of the new centers for illegal immigrants waiting for deportation will be around EUR 15 million. This year, EUR 10 million will be allocated to the construction of each of these facilities.

The undertaking, which will be financed from EU funds, is part of the policy of sharpening regulations towards illegal immigrants by the government of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro – emphasize observers.

On Monday, the head of government expressed the hope that he was approved by the parliament on July 16 this year. The provisions tightening the law regarding illegal immigrants will be recognized by the Portuguese Constitutional Tribunal as in accordance with the Basic Law. On Thursday, the new regulations for the Constitutional Tribunal were sent by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
