US President Donald Trump returned to the shortening of the ultimatum he gave to the Kremlin leader on Monday to reach an agreement on the conflict in Ukraine.

He said he sets a new deadline for 10 or 12 days for Russia to put an end to the war, in a new statement that shows his frustration towards Russian leader Vladimir Putin because the latter extends the fights between the two parties, reports Reuters.

Speaking in Scotland, where he has meetings with European leaders and plays Golf, Trump initially stated that he is disappointed by Putin and shortens the 50 -day term he had established in early month.

Later, the leader from the White House came with clarifications. “I will set a new term of approximately … 10 or 12 days today,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “There is no point in waiting … we simply do not see any progress,” added the US president.

Trump has repeatedly expressed exasperation to Putin for continuing attacks on Ukraine, despite US efforts to end the war.

Before returning to the White House in January, Trump, who considered himself a pacifier, had promised to put an end to the conflict that lasts for three and a half years.

“I am disappointed by President Putin,” Trump said in the initial statements on Monday. “I will reduce the 50 days I gave it to a shorter period, because I think I already know what will happen,” the white house chief.

The Kremlin did not comment immediately.

Trump has threatened with imposing new sanctions against Russia and buyers of Russian products, if an agreement on the Ukraine war is not reached until the beginning of September.

But the US president, who expressed his term and dissatisfaction with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, did not always respect his harsh promises to Putin, invoking the good relationship that the two have in the past, notes Reuters.

“I thought I solved the problem countless times, and then the President Putin comes out and begins to launch rockets like Kiev and kill a lot of people in an asylum for old people,” Trump said. “I also say that this is not the case,” the American leader said.
