Trump reacted to Macron's statement about plans to recognize Palestine

On July 24, Macron announced that France would do this at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in September.

According to Trump, what the French leader says, “does not matter” and “it will not change anything.” At the same time, the head of the White House noted that Macron is a “very good guy” and he loves him, but “this statement does not matter.”

He emphasized that the president of France is a “person with a special approach”, but “normal” and “generally plays in the team.”

Context

The creation of two independent states – Israel and Palestine – on the site of the historical region of Palestine provides for the resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1947. However, this plan was not implemented.

In 1988, Palestine, partially under the control of Israel, announced independence. At the moment, it was recognized by 139 of 193 countries – members of the UN, including Ukraine.

Ukraine recognized Palestine as a member of the UN, even when it was part of the USSR, in 1988. Palestine recognized the independence of Ukraine in 1992.

On October 7, the Hamas group invaded Israel from the Gaza sector. Since that time, Israel has been waging a war against Hamas in response to his attack on the territory of Israel, the murder of civilians and the abduction of more than 100 hostages, some of which were liberated or killed. The ground operation continues in the gas sector, accompanied by massive bombing. During this time, about 40 thousand people died there.

May 22, 2024 Norway, Ireland and Spain announced the recognition of the statehood of Palestine.

On April 22, 2025, Macron spoke about the importance of recognizing the Palestinian state.

On July 24, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was indignant due to Macron's intention to recognize the Palestinian state. He emphasized that this would become a “reward” for the actions of Hamas and aggravate the existential threat to Israel.

On the same day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also criticized Macron's readiness to recognize the Palestinian state, noting that the United States “resolutely reject” this.
