Cristian Tudor Popescu recalled that Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu, who was involved in a corruption file in which he acknowledged that he gave eight years to an ANAF inspector, asked in May, when he was a presidential counselor, “to escape this stupidity with the declaration of wealth.”

Two months ago, Mr. Dragoș Anastasiu, at that time the advisor to President Nicușor Dan, cataloged as more, no less than “a stupidity” the obligation of dignitaries to make public the declarations of wealth and welcome the cancellation of this obligation by the RCC, “said Cristian Tudor Popescu.

He reminded the remarks he made at that time.

“Then, I said:” At the level of the simple citizen, things are seen as follows: “These rich people with big functions in the state want to hide what steals.” This is the image! And Mr. Anastasiu makes all these simple citizens fool! Despite the claim of his counselor and the CCR decision, President Dan made his statement of wealth public, and Mr. Anastasiu was advanced Deputy Prime Minister ”, continued CTP.

The newspaper said ironically that now he understands “why did Dragoș Anastasiu be fools.

“Now I understand why the current Deputy Prime Minister was stupid. He was right: because we do not know how to rush, 8 years in a row, hundreds of thousands of euros in protection at ANAF, without even being accused for this,” concluded Cristian Tudor Popescu.

The file in which Dragoș Anastasiu was involved

For 8 years, between 2009-2017, the companies of Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu bribed an ANAF inspector in order not to have problems with controls, according to a DNA investigation, completed two years ago with a definitive sentence of the officer who took a bribe. Anastasiu acknowledged the bribe of ANAF employee both in front of DNA and judges. Neither he nor his employees were charged because his business partner has filed the DNA.

The representatives of the Romanian Government claim that the “circumstances of the case” in which Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu acknowledged in court that his company has bribed an ANAF inspector “have nothing to do with the quality of deputy prime minister and to the duties of Mr. Dragoș Anastasiu”.
