Life imprisonment for Femicide authors. Law adopted in the Senate of a European Country

The Italian Senate on Wednesday approved a draft law on the female crime, informs the Italian press agency Ansa, taken over by Agerpres.
The draft law, which was adopted with 161 votes for and none against, modifies the criminal law of Italy and punishes anyone who causes a woman “by acts of discrimination or hatred to the victim for being a woman or if the criminal act aims to suppress the exercise of rights, freedoms or personality.”

The draft law also establishes new conditions for granting incentives and privileges in penitentiaries for those convicted of Femicide and strengthens the obligations regarding the development of initiatives in the plan of education and awareness in order to combat gender -based violence.
The Chamber of Deputies, the lower chamber of the Italian legislature, is now going to give its final opinion on the project, which is elaborated under the conditions in which Italy has undergone a series of shocking cases of femicide in recent years.
According to the Italian Ministry of Interior, 113 Femicids were registered in 2024, of which 99 in a family or emotional context. Of these 99 women, 61 were killed by their partner or former partner.
