The representatives of former US President Democrat Barack Obama said on Tuesday that the document issued last week by the Bureau of the Director of National Intelligence Services does not deny that Russia has tried to influence the American elections in 2016, but that it has not manipulated any vote, reports Reuters.
“Nothing in the document issued last week undermines the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential elections, but failed to manipulate any vote,” Obama's office said in a statement.
The current US President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Barack Obama of “betrayal”, saying, without providing evidence, that the Democrat led an effort meant to falsely bind him to Russia and undermine his 2016 presidential campaign.
“These bizarre accusations are ridiculous and a weak attempt to distract attention,” said Obama's office.
What Donald Trump had stated
On Tuesday, during a press conference in the Oval Office with the President of the Philippines, the US Republican leader requested the criminal prosecution of Barack Obama due to a report that claims that officials from the Democratic Administration have manipulated information on Russia's interference in 2016 elections, according to AFP.
The statement was made in the context in which the director of the National Intelligence Services (DNI), Tulsi Gabbard, sent to the Department of Justice Criminal Notifications related to a report published on Friday, who claimed that Obama administration officials were part of a “tracing conspiracy”.
Asked who he should target the department, Trump replied: “Based on what I read-and I read what you read-would be President Obama. He started it.”
He also mentioned Obama's then Vice-President Joe Biden, former director of FBI James Comey, former director of DNI James Clappe and former director of CIA John Brennan, as part of a conspiracy.
Donald Trump claims that the “band leader” was Obama, who accused of being guilty of “betrayal”.
