“They want us to be fat and stupid.” The American escaped to Russia from “LGBT propaganda” – and was on the front line

It was like that until May 26. That day a film appeared on the channel entitled: “My husband, American, joined the Russian army. There were great changes in our family.”
The new gazeta tells the story of the Huffman family, which left the United States in search of “traditional values” and found herself in the middle of the war, which she saw only on television.
– Hi, Deanna! Hi, girls! I am glad that I can record this video for you, show that everything is fine for me, that I lost a bit. I miss you more than you can imagine. I am looking forward to meeting you, I hope that I will be free soon … Just know that I think about you all the time. What I do now is important to me and our family. I will do everything to come back to you all and healthy. Take care of each other. Take care of my mother who now has a lot on her head. Deanna, I love you and I am proud of you. I know how hard you do there without me. But I am grateful to you for everything you do to give me the opportunity to do everything in my family for our family – says Derek Huffman, dressed in a Russian military uniform, in a short film published on the YouTube channel “Huffman Time”.
The man sent a video to his wife and daughters on the occasion of Father's Day, which is celebrated in the United States on June 15. Finally, he promises that they will spend his father's next day.
While the 46-year-old American undergoes military training, his family lives on the outskirts of the Being in the so-called American village. The plans to create a settlement for refugees from the USA two years ago was told by propagandist Tim Kirby – an American who has lived in Russia since 2006 and runs a broadcast on Radio Majak.

– I was making a film about a priest who was born in the USA, but went to Orthodoxy and moved to the Jarosław region. His name is Joseph Gleason. Now he is the father of Józef. We made friends, told me how many people want to move here, they ask him about it. I said, “Yes! They still call and write to me.” And so the idea was born to build an American village – said Kirby.
According to Kirby, the main reason why Americans move to Russia is the lack of “LGBT propaganda” – while “in the west it is everywhere: in commercials, computer games, even in schools children are told that this is the norm.” Kirby and his supporters Putin's decree was very useful “On providing humanitarian aid, people sharing traditional Russian spiritual and moral values”, according to which foreigners with similar views can move to Russia without passing the Russian language exam and Russia's history.
The reasons for moving Huffman were not very original.

Derek and Deanna have six children. Three older sons – aged 22, 21 and 20 – stayed in the United States. Three younger daughters – teenagers – moved to the existence with their parents. Huffman were outraged by the fact that children in America are “fed LGBT propaganda”. In his film devoted to moving to Russia, Derek could not explain what exactly it was, saying only that “today all fairy tales are about sex and sex.”
– We could not accept that our daughters grow up in such a world. In addition, food in America is very unhealthy. They want us to be fat, stupid and easily controlled. It pays for us to be sick and spend money on medicine all the time. We didn't want to be sick. I didn't want my children to turn into zombies – said Derek.
Initially, the family tried to find a “traditional life” in the United States. They moved from Arizona to Texas, counting on a more conservative environment. But “propaganda” also caught them there. Then the spouses decided that their daughters would study at home not to hear talks about sex and sexual identity at school. But apparently it didn't help either. Then Derek began to look for a country he could move to, and found an article about Tim Kirby and his “American village”.
– We had a plot in Texas, where we intended to build a house. We put it for sale and started saving. Moving to Russia was expensive. But the “American village” project entered the implementation phase and we decided. We sold the land, invested all savings and signed up for participation – Yes, Huffman talked about his move.
As a result, the “American village” was actually established in the Moscow Istra. However, there are not many residents in it: the Huffman and the older Barrett couple who left the United States, leaving all relatives. However, on the spot because of the language barrier they were not able to make even simple contacts with their Russian neighbors.
Houses – small white modular buildings – do not look impressive, even though the Americans had to sell almost all their assets in their homeland to buy them. There are only two rooms in the Huffman House, where five people live. The area around the construction site still resembles, the plot still requires development.
“The local culture is amazing”
In the film where Derek shows his new home, immediately after discussing the decay and finish, he returns to the topic of “the fall of the West” again. According to him, the United States lost morality: children learn sex before they even understand what he is, and in libraries there are pornography books. “But Russia is different,” Huffman argued in the first months after moving.
In almost every film, the spouses, trying to convince viewers or themselves about the rightness of their decision, invariably emphasized how good and kind people in Russia are. And each time they gave the same story as an example: as in the first days after arrival, the neighbors offered them a cake on March 8.

– We are simply grateful that we could leave and Now we raise children as we want. In a great country. Putin is an excellent leader, he did a lot for Russia. It's safe here. Yesterday we went to the city and saw how children aged about eight years calmly traveled by bus. They all know where they are going. The streets are clean, people respect their country. They do not throw cigarette butt, they do not throw garbage out of cars. The local culture is amazing. People are good. The state does not interfere in life until you break the law. We like the strict law, especially in relation to drugs, crimes and theft. This is what makes the country safe – said Derek enthusiastically in the film from March 9.
Two months remained to send it to the front.
“Dad signed a contract with the army”
On May 26, a video appeared on the “Huffman Time” channel, in which Deanna said that her husband signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense and that it was a “thoughtful” decision.
In the same film, she showed how she conveys this message to her daughters. – Dad signed a contract with the army. This is already official – sings Deanna to his juvenile daughters. Girls do not respond to this message in any way.
In the film Derek, he openly talks about his motivation to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense: He wanted to get citizenship for himself and his family so as not to wait five years. Another reason for signing the contract was the desire to “deserve the right to life in Russia.” In his opinion, in the United States, many immigrants arrive without respect for local culture and without the desire to integrate, and he does not want him to think about him in the same way in Russia.
– I defend the country, our country. I deserve my place here. And no one will be able to accuse me of my family that it is different. Russia began a war in Ukraine to protect the Russian -speaking people living there. Russia is rightly progressing, the Nazi regime in Ukraine must be stopped.
A week later, on June 8, a new video appeared on the Huffman channel. Deanna has long talked about the most important events in their family. The first on her list was information that she would be able to work as an English teacher at school or kindergarten. Then she described a visit to the library and the life of her daughters. Only then did the woman go to her husband's fate.
– It's hard without a husband. Many people ask how it is. He is in the training base. It's difficult. The food is only in the form of dry food reasons, little water, the stomach hurts. He loses weight, enjoys, but also sad – says Deanna. Then a derek insert appeared in the film. He says that there is already eighth day in a training camp, that he is hard for him, but he is proud that he will defend his new homeland: – Deanna, Sofia, Ashlyn, Catherine, I love you very much. I miss. I do everything to come back to you alive and, I hope as a hero.
Deanna says that many people ask her if the state pays for service. So why can't her family buy a car? The woman replies that the salary is much lower than promised. Then, apparently not suspecting that in Russia such words are threatened by criminal proceedings, he declares that The military equipment that her husband received was “not very good” And that “one good man” gave him shoes, a bulletproof vest and a helmet.

On June 14, Deanna published a film in which she said that three years ago she managed to overcome heavy addiction to alcohol, but after her husband went to the front, she began to drink again.
Three days later, Huffman published a new film. The mood in it is even more depressing. The woman says that her husband has been cheated. Because Derek is a welder by profession, they hoped that he would be directed to the rear, where his professional skills could be useful. However, the command decided to send it to the front.
– He has a welder certificate and really extensive experience in construction and welding. We thought they would take him to a safer place and could use his experience. Unfortunately, we are not sure if this will happen. That's why I still pray to God – she said in one of the videos on the family blog.
Deanna also said that Derek even tried to apply for the position of a military reporter on the front, but he was refused. Then he wanted to get to the renovation brigade, but it didn't work out either.
– In addition, training in a ward for foreigners takes place only in Russian, and he poorly knows this language. For this reason, he learns almost nothing: if you don't understand the language, how can you learn something at all? He feels like he was just thrown into the middle of the events and now he remains only to rely on faith. We all pray to make the situation change. We also turned to several well -known people, we hope that one of them will help us lead us to be directed where it is more useful – says Deanna.
In the same film, a woman informs that her husband needs money, and she has nothing to send it from, because in a month that Derek spent on the front, his family did not receive any payments. Deanna soon deleted this film, but he behaved on the Reddit website.
Since then, no video about Derek's service has appeared on the “Huffman Time” channel. What's more, it has not even been mentioned on his family's head for almost a month. Although movies about “life in Russia” still appear. Deanna shows in them the daily lives of his daughters, who spend all the time with her at home, talks about cooking, walks with the dog. Currently, he is waiting for two events – his mother's arrival in Russia and submitting documents for citizenship.
To the question of the New Gazeta correspondent about where Derek is currently staying, his wife did not answer. Russian propaganda media is also silent, which at the beginning of the year spoke a lot about “Russian Americans”.
