Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor known especially for Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show, has died. Warner, who was 54, drowned on Sunday, while on vacation in Costa Rica.

The Judicial Investigation Agency in Costa Rica confirmed the death in a press release. Warner was dragged into the sea while swimming at Playa Grande around the local hour 14: 00-14: 30 in Cocles, a city in Limón province, the local authorities said.

Warner played the role of Bill Cosby's son in the American series in 1984-1992. He was nominated for the Emmy Award for the most remarkable supporting actor in a comedy series for his work in The Cosby Show in 1986. He was chosen by Cosby for his important role on the last day of a national audition.

After The Cosby Show, Warner appeared in several other television programs, including Malcom & Eddie, along with comedian Eddie Griffin. He had appearances as a guest in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Sesame Street. More recently, he performed Austin, a cardio-thoracic surgeon, in the Dramatic Medical series The Resident.

His album by Spoken Word “Hing in Plain View” brought a new Grammy nomination in 2023.

Warner also won a Grammy award for the best traditional R&B interpretation in 2015, along with Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway, for the co-worm of Stevie Wonder's Jesus Children of America.
