Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timișoara and the USR leader, spoke on Tuesday evening at Antena 3 about the reasons why he has not yet acquired Romanian citizenship, stating that “the state does not even work at the Citizenship Authority”.
Asked why he does not receive Romanian citizenship, Dominic Fritz replied: “Because the state does not even work at the Citizenship Authority, where there is a blockage of about 50,000 files for citizenship. They have not reached 2024”.
“Over a year ago I submitted my file and actually have not reached the stack of files, and I do not want to get in front, but I expect every Romanian, and it makes me feel a little more Romanian,” concluded the USR leader.
Filed the file on July 4, 2024
About a month after winning the second term of mayor of Timisoara, Dominic Fritz announced that he had submitted the file to obtain Romanian citizenship.
“This is how the smile of a becoming Romanian shows. Today I submitted my file for the acquisition of Romanian citizenship. The truth is that I feel a long time. To have a Romanian passport will be the official confirmation for a simple fact: with good, bad, I believe in Romania and in its potential.
“I thank Romania for this extraordinary journey to which you invited me when I first stepped on your land, at 19. And thank Europe for allowing me to be Timisoara from the Black Forest, German and, especially, free man,” he said.
